The School is in the final preparations for the 2003 addition of the Brentwood Regatta, which takes place next weekend April 25 - 27th. Heats start 2:00 pm Friday and continue to Sunday afternoon. There are going to be 161 races over the three days with races coming down the 1500-meter course every 8 minutes. Eventhough the regatta is held on the Pacific Ocean, the School has a 60-meter floating dock at the starting line to help get these races off on time. The setting of the School makes this a great spectator event where the entire race can be watched from the banks in front of the boathouse. The categories remain the same this year with Junior A, Junior A JV, Junior A Novice, Junior B, Junior B Novice and Junior C. There are over 1400 athletes coming from as far south as San Diego, far north as North Shore, British Columbia. Washington State clubs, Green Lake, Mount Baker, Everett and Sammamish are bringing up 120 to 130 athletes each. The California crews will be arriving on Thursday to get acclimatized to the surroundings and the Saanich Inlet. It is going to be an exciting year as we have both the Boy's and Girl's champions from the 2003 San Diego Crew Classic with Sammamish the Girl's champions and Oregon Rowing Unlimited the Boys champions. Los Gatos Lightweights won the petite final of the Boys Junior JV race. Green Lake Boys Varsity, defending American junior champions are back again after only losing two athletes to graduation last year. The Victoria City Girls Varsity eight return to defend their championship performance from last year. The Brentwood Regatta is considered to be one of the largest "single School" regattas in North America. The entire campus of 400 students and staff volunteer their weekend to help run the regatta. There are over 500 athletes who stay on the floors of our gym and auditorium as well as the local public school gym where Green Lake and Mount Baker stay every year. The coaching staff of Brentwood College are looking forward to the 25 hours of racing over the weekend. We welcome the some of the best competition on the West Coast and look forward to the spectacular racing that is going to take place. Our computer department has a very powerful program where people on the Internet actually find out the results before it is posted for the general public to see. Below is the main website where you can find more information about the regatta as well as all the results during the weekend.
